Preventing strokes
Prevention is the safest and best protection against a stroke. A healthy lifestyle can reduce or eliminate some risk factors in advance.
A healthy lifestyle includes:
- a conscious diet with a high proportion of fruit, vegetables, low-fat and low-sugar food
- Regular exercise and sport
- sufficient fluid intake – older people in particular need to pay attention to this, as the “feeling of thirst” decreases with age
- Quit smoking
- Avoidance of stress
- Weight loss
If risk factors are present despite a healthy lifestyle, you should have your state of health checked regularly by your doctor.
