Prevention is the safest and best protection against a stroke. A healthy lifestyle can reduce or eliminate some risk factors in advance.

A healthy lifestyle includes:

  • a conscious diet with a high proportion of fruit, vegetables, low-fat and low-sugar food
  • Regular exercise and sport
  • sufficient fluid intake – older people in particular need to pay attention to this, as the “feeling of thirst” decreases with age
  • Quit smoking
  • Avoidance of stress
  • Weight loss

If risk factors are present despite a healthy lifestyle, you should have your state of health checked regularly by your doctor.
