Kompetenznetz Schlaganfall – For a healthy brain for a lifetime
The Kompetenznetz Schlaganfall will realign and expand its focus in the future. The focus is on the prevention of brain diseases, especially those with neurovascular and neurodegenerative causes such as stroke, dementia and Parkinson’s disease. We are pursuing this path together with the Max Planck School of Cognition, a graduate program of university and non-university research institutions with which we cooperate closely.
Focus on prevention
This new focus takes into account the close link between vascular diseases of the brain and neurodegenerative processes. Many risk factors that can lead to a stroke – such as high blood pressure, diabetes and an unhealthy lifestyle with little exercise – also play a decisive role in the development of dementia and Parkinson’s disease. A better understanding of common mechanisms will open up new ways of prevention and therapy. Because it is now clear: If you protect your vascular system, you also protect your brain
Training and knowledge sharing
Research is progressing rapidly. New options for prevention and therapy are constantly on the starting blocks. In order for this knowledge to benefit those affected quickly, new findings need to reach doctors’ surgeries quickly. Through education, training and networking, the Kompetenznetz Schlaganfall aims to support medical professionals and the general public in raising awareness of risk factors and actively taking countermeasures.
Since 2010, the Kompetenznetz Schlaganfall has successfully organized an annual training event on the prevention of neurovascular diseases. This established event offers medical and healthcare professionals an important platform for interdisciplinary exchange and practical training. Our newsletter and our website provide regular updates on new research findings.
Our goal
The Kompetenznetz Schlaganfall sees itself as a platform for education, networking and knowledge transfer in the field of neurovascular and neurodegenerative prevention.
Our goal is to maintain brain health in the long term, raise awareness of prevention and thus contribute to the avoidance of diseases that have a lasting impact on the lives of many people.
